Damon Braces

One of the most popular types of orthodontic appliances at Smiles Orthodontics is the Damon system. Our Wichita orthodontist provides Damon passive self-ligating braces for patients who want faster results and fewer appointments. What are Damon braces?

Like traditional braces, Damon braces use metal bands to exert pressure on the teeth and align them. What sets them apart, however, are their passive self-ligating system that allow patients to complete the orthodontic process without elastic or metal ties. This system reduces any friction and pressure that could be slowing down treatment and causing discomfort. Damon braces also utilize an advanced shape memory wire that automatically adjusts to gently correct the teeth quickly and smoothly. Our Wichita dentist, Dr. Gorantla, has undergone extensive training to administer the Damon treatment in a way that not only straightens teeth but also creates a balanced bite and skeletal structure. We like to call these results the “Damon System Bracelift.”

How does the self-ligating mechanism work?

The self-ligating mechanism is a specialized clip that holds the metal wire in place. It tightens by slowly sliding into position, making the process much easier. Since there are no elastics that need to be replaced, it also reduces the need for frequent trips to the orthodontist.

Can I get Damon braces?

Yes! If your orthodontist believes you are prepared for braces, then you can probably get Damon braces. Like any type of orthodontic appliance, patients do need to meet a few requirements, including healthy gums and strong bones. Besides that, the Damon system is great for most age groups. Children, teens, and adults can all benefit from it. To find out if the Damon system is the best option for you, we recommend making an appointment for a consultation with our Wichita orthodontist.

How long does it take?

Treatment time varies with every patient. On average, the Damon system takes 6 months less than traditional braces would. Most people start to see results as soon as 10 weeks into their treatment, but every situation is different. The length of your treatment ultimately depends on how well you take care of your braces and what pre-existing conditions need to be treated. Your orthodontist can give you a more accurate estimate that is customized to your specific needs.

How much does it cost? / Does insurance cover it?

We know that cost is a big question for anyone considering braces. The truth is, it depends a lot on the kind of treatment you need. The cost of Damon braces is usually similar to the cost of traditional braces. Here at Smiles Orthodontics Wichita, KS, we offer flexible and affordable monthly payment plans, many with no down payment and no Interest. Because orthodontic benefits differ significantly among insurance policies, you should review your policy coverage. If you have orthodontic coverage, Damon System braces are covered to the same extent as regular braces.
